the eating adventures of potbellypig and the pregnant lady
one of my best friends is about to pop.
literally. she is about 5 weeks away from giving birth to her first child. so i have to take advantage of her now because once she unleashes…there is no way of getting it back inside of her belly.
so we hit the mall after work. she was in search of a baby beanie and some mittens. (none of the stores in ala moana have baby mittens! learn something new everyday!) and i was just happy to tag along.
we were headed towards nordstrom when i remembered something that another friend who works in the mall had shared with me earlier this week…one of our favorite places to eat is the health bar on monsarrat. they have a super delish acai bowl. i shall review it at another date, but please take my word for it. it is really really good. they get the blended acai, top it with granola, bananas, strawberries, blueberries and honey. you can also get bee pollen if you want. it is so refreshing. none of the other acai bowls come close to this one. Anyway, earlier this week i was having dinner with my friend who works in the mall and she said that there was a place on the first floor of that new row of shops going to nordstrom that had an acai bowl just as good as the one at the health bar.
so the pregnant lady and i began our search. we wandered down the row of shops (after being stopped by the white glove and whistle of the super effective security guard) towards nordstrom and on the left hand side is the blue hawaii lifestyle store. i didnt even know that there was a cafe inside the store, but there is. and it is probably passed over often. i know i shouldnt be saying this, but if you are in the area, do not pass it up. go inside.
it is the cutest little health cafe. i wish i took more pictures, but the pregnant lady was a bit embarassed with my picture taking so i didnt get as many shots as i wanted. they serve espresso, lattes, coffee, tea, acai bowls, sandwiches and salads.
we decided to get the blue hawaii acai bowl. it is topped with bananas, berries, honey and granola. there are two sizes, regular $7.35 and large $9.35.

isnt it beautiful? here is what it looks like a few scoops into it

the acai bowl was very good. it was just as good if not better then the health bar.
serendipitously, we decided to split the grilled cheese sandwich. i am so glad that we did because it was definately the best grilled cheese sandwich that we have ever had.

it might look unassuming, but the crispy grilled bread was so buttery and good and the cheese was so melty it was definately the best that we have ever had. if you close your eyes and take a bite, it kind of tasted like cheetos puffs. the pregnant lady said that she wanted to go back tomorrow and eat two orders of it all by herself.
the blue hawaii lifestyle cafe was a very good find and i highly recommend it. even if you have to risk dragging a very pregnant lady around the mall to get it. (dont worry folks, i watch greys anatomy, so i am pretty much prepared to deliver that baby anytime.)

PBP, PBP, PBP! We finally tried this place out! It was soooooo good, I think it is my wife Prissy’s new favorite place. Here’s some pictures we took while there! We ordered the Mauna Kea Acai bowl. We ordered a regular size for around $12.50 (small is $10.50 or so). Since they were closing they gave it to us to-go and they divided the regular order into two very decent size to-go cups.
It was very creamy, cold, with crunchy granola, banana, and honey. Next time we’ll try out the grilled cheese!

I still don’t know what acai is but this whole creation was like poetry! Everything melded together excellently. You had the cold creamy acai (almost like a berry yogurt), crunchy and hearty granola on the top and bottom, and fresh fruit topped with honey. It was dreamy.

Ohh I bet you’re creating one of those “I have to have this” meals for your preggie friend. You know those stories where the wife tells the husband she needs a pickle and ice cream sandwich at weird hours of the day/night?
I hope they live close to Ala Moana!!
